Who this is for
Modest fashion brands in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UK, Europe and the US that want consistent production without repeated sampling rounds. And founders launching a first range of abayas, maxi dresses, co-ords or tunics who want a correct sample and tech pack from the start.
The market is large. According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy report, Muslim consumers spent $347 billion on apparel and footwear in 2024, up 6.2% on the year, with a forecast of $444 billion by 2029 (Salaam Gateway, SGIE 2025/26). Customers in this segment pay for fabric and fit, and notice immediately when they're missing. In Central Asia the segment is growing too: Almaty hosted its first Islamic fashion week, Sisters Fashion Weekend (Kazakhstanskaya Pravda).
Who I am
Irina Tsoi, Bishkek. Twenty years in the garment industry as a fashion designer and pattern maker: product development, patterns, materials, sewing technology, production and quality control. Three years selling clothing online, where long dresses are among the hardest products for fit-related returns.
Communication: in Russian; English via written messages. Brief, comments and reports are exchanged in writing with translation.
Why modest garments are harder than they look
A long, loose garment looks simple. In production it isn't:
- Length and balance. On a floor-length abaya, a small balance error at the shoulder becomes a hem that dips at the front or back.
- Fabric. Crepe, chiffon, silk-like and other fluid fabrics stretch on the bias, shift in cutting and need their own allowances and seam finishes.
- Volume and movement. Covered arms and full skirts must allow sitting, walking and prayer without pulling or riding up.
- Layers. Linings, under-dresses and detachable pieces multiply the number of pattern pieces and the chance of mismatches.
- Fabric consumption. Long, wide pieces use a lot of fabric. Marker planning before you buy fabric directly affects your cost per unit.
These are pattern and technology questions. Solving them in the pattern and the tech pack is cheaper than solving them in the sample room, three times.
What I do
- Product development: from your sketches or references to a construction that works in your chosen fabric.
- Patterns and grading to your size chart, including extended sizes.
- Tech pack: flat sketches, measurement chart with tolerances, fabric and trims specification, seam finishes for fluid fabrics, labelling and packing.
- Sample review: you send photos or video on a model; I correct the pattern.
- Factory in Bishkek (optional): selection and visit, pre-production sample, production control and final inspection.
How it works
- Brief. Styles, fabrics, size range, target market, price point, date.
- Plan and quote. Styles, stages, timeline, my fee in writing. Payment by card via Stripe.
- Patterns and tech pack for each style.
- Sample in your factory or one in Bishkek. Fit review and corrections.
- Production (if in Bishkek): you contract the factory directly; I control the run and inspect before shipment.
Planning around Ramadan and Eid
Demand in modest fashion peaks before Ramadan and Eid. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, which means a capsule should be in development in autumn 2026. A realistic schedule for a new style:
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Brief, pattern and tech pack | 2–3 weeks |
| First sample and fit corrections | 2–3 weeks |
| Pre-production sample, fabric purchase | 1–2 weeks |
| Bulk production and inspection | Depends on the factory and quantity |
| Freight to your market | Depends on route and forwarder |
These are planning ranges, not promises. Fabric availability and the factory's schedule move them. The earlier the brief, the more room for a second fit round if a style needs it.
Producing in Bishkek
Kyrgyzstan's garment sector is concentrated around Bishkek; in 2024 clothing made up 85% of light industry output (AKIpress, June 2025). Many workshops are small and accept trial runs from 20–50 units per style, which suits a capsule. Factories in Bishkek already sew long dresses and outerwear for regional markets, but each one must be checked for your fabric and finish.
I am not a freight forwarder or customs broker. Export, freight, duties and any lab testing are handled by providers you pay directly; I prepare product data, labels and packing to your requirements.
